Peter Ward and his girlfriend choose not to leave their home flooded in Brantford, despite the evacuation notice of the city.
“We were not going to leave unless [the police] knock on our door. But no one came, so we stayed, “says Ward.
He has not slept for nearly 24 hours, working to run a pump to drain the water from his basement.
The water is pumped outside, but there is always water infiltrating [in the basement].

His fear is that the water will break his furnace and his water heater.

A municipal spokesperson said the evacuation, which affects three neighborhoods, is not mandatory, but “strongly recommended” to ensure the safety of residents.
