Students in the Windsor area born in 2000 and 2011 will be required to present vaccination cards by Monday to be able to attend class.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reports that students may be suspended from school for up to 20 days if their vaccines are not up to date.
“Starting Tuesday morning, if we do not have the information, they will be sent home,” says Judy Allen of the Health Unit.
At noon Thursday, about 675 students did not have an up-to-date vaccination record, she said.
This measure affects students in grades 11 and 12. “The reason we chose this group is that they are supposed to have had their recalls between the ages of 14 and 16,” says Judy Allen.
Many parents went with their children to the Health Unit this week. Every day, up to 100 students are vaccinated.
The organization also plans to open walk-in clinics next week for latecomers.
